PAKU MOKU BBQ

This restaurant is the fifth venue of a Japanese food and beverage group in Beijing. We were asked to design a space which combine the style of a BBQ place with and American industrial bar. Located in a second floor the guests have to climb directly from the street so the entrance stairs become the first key element to welcome customers.

Exposed concrete, red bricks and black steel reflects the atmosphere of a factory, while a clean white tiles wall act as a media board that takes influences from pop art. By using a simple film this wall can change its message during the year. The VIP room reminds the idea of a traditional Japanese ‘izakaya’ brought into the middle of the space. Red seats and lightings add a strong contrast while the raised floor gives privacy. Just in front of the open kitchen and bar, a layer of lamps defines the central table areas and add uniqueness to the overall character.
